Role Overview:

The Research and Advocacy Officer will support our legal and policy initiatives. This role involves analyzing domestic and international climate frameworks, drafting briefs, data collection and supporting our advocacy campaigns on issues such as the single-use plastic ban, circular economy models, and the rights of informal waste workers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct legal and policy research on environmental governance, climate-induced loss and damage, and national waste management regulations.
• Assist in drafting policy briefs, position papers, and analytical articles for national and international advocacy.
• Support the preparation of training materials and capacity-building workshops on climate change and human rights.
• Monitor policy developments related to environmental law and the circular economy in Ethiopia and globally.
• Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of projects, workshops, trainings, consultations, and advocacy activities.
• Contribute to the development of advocacy and communication materials, including social media content, website materials, campaign messages, and other public event outputs.
• Maintain and organize relevant databases, research materials, project documents, and institutional records.

Requirements:

• Education: A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree is strictly required.
• Academic Excellence: Must have graduated with a minimum CGPA of 3.5
• Experience: 0 to 2 years of relevant experience in research, advocacy, or legal analysis.
• Age: Must be under 29 years old.

Skills: Exceptional analytical, writing, and research skills; strong understanding of environmental justice and human rights frameworks.

Role Overview:

The Youth Engagement and Community Mobilization Officer will be the driving force behind our grassroots initiatives. This role focuses on organizing community workshops, engaging youth environmental clubs, and working directly with local waste collection and composting cooperatives to implement zero-waste practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Organize and deliver educational workshops, public debates, and campaigns centered on climate resilience, organic waste bioconversion, and plastic pollution.
• Liaise with local community groups, including informal waste pickers and waste collection cooperatives (such as those in Yeka Sub-City), to support project implementation and equipment distribution.
• Promote cultural and traditional sustainable practices (such as the use of zembil and jebena) through community outreach and grassroots campaigning.
• Assist in the logistical planning and execution of local environmental events, film screenings, and youth forums.
• Support with the organization’s graphic design needs
• Support the monitoring, documentation, and reporting of community-based environmental activities and project outcomes.

Requirements:

• Education: A degree in Law, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Communications, or any other related field.
• Experience: 0 to 2 years of experience in community organizing, graphic design, event planning, volunteer coordination, or grassroots campaigning.
• Age: Must be under 29 years old.
• Skills: Highly energetic with excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills; ability to connect with diverse groups, from government officials, to high school students to frontline waste workers.

Common Details for Both Positions

Duration: 3-month paid internship.
