Junior underwriting Insurance Officer – Job Description

1. Policy Administration Support

  • Assist in preparing, issuing, and renewing insurance policies in accordance with UIB Underwriting, renewal,etc guidelines..

  • Support verification of policy documents to ensure accuracy and completeness as per UIB check lists and formats.

  • Handle endorsements, cancellations, and policy amendments under supervision.

  • Assist in maintaining accurate policy records for new and existing clients.

2. Records and Documentation

  • Ensure proper filing and organization of client records, both manual and system.

  • Maintain updated client files in line with company documentation standards.

  • Support data entry and record updates as required.

3. Quotation and Underwriting Support

  • Assist in the preparation and processing of insurance quotations.

  • Using UIB formats, collect and verify client information required for underwriting decisions.

  • Conduct preliminary risk assessments under supervision of senior staff.

  • Ensure client applications meet underwriting guidelines and documentation requirements.

4. Other Department Support and Communication

  • Respond to client inquiries regarding policy details, coverage options, and premium rates.

  • Provide basic policy information and escalate complex queries to senior officers.

  • Maintain professional communication with clients.

5. Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all activities adhere to company policies, underwriting guidelines, and insurance regulations.

  • Support compliance checks and quality control reviews as directed by supervisors.

  • Report any discrepancies or non-compliance issues to senior staff.

6. SIBRO Software Responsibilities

  • Use the SIBRO insurance management system for daily policy administration activities.

  • Accurately enter and update policy data in SIBRO, including new policies, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.

  • Upload policy documents, endorsements, quotations, and related records into the SIBRO system in a timely manner.

  • Verify data accuracy and completeness in SIBRO under supervision.

  • Maintain consistency between SIBRO records and manual files.

  • Report system issues or data discrepancies to senior staff.

  • Participate in SIBRO-related training sessions and follow system procedures.

7. Reporting

  • Assist in preparing periodic reports on policy issuance, renewals, cancellations, and amendments.

  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of reports as required.

8. Training and Development

  • Participate in training programs to enhance knowledge of insurance products, underwriting processes, and SIBRO usage.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and internal procedures.

  • Apply training knowledge to daily operational tasks.

9. Team Support

  • Work closely with underwriting, claims, and sales teams to support daily operations.

  • Assist senior officers with assigned tasks to ensure smooth workflow.

  • Contribute positively to team objectives and service quality.

10. Other Tasks

  • Perform additional duties assigned in line with company objectives and operational needs.

The employee is required to maintain strict confidentiality with respect to all client, insurer, and company information obtained in the course of their duties, including personal data, policy details, commercial information, and internal processes. Such information must not be disclosed to any unauthorized person or used for purposes other than the proper performance of job responsibilities, and must be handled in accordance with company policies and applicable data protection and regulatory requirements, both during and after employment.

 

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree in Management, Civil Engineering , mechanical Engineering, Chemicale Engineering, IT or a related field is usually required. Some employers may accept an associate’s degree or a professional certification in insurance or underwriting.

  • Skills: Proficiency in using various software applications and tools for data entry, analysis, calculation, and communication, such as Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, and underwriting systems.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills are essential.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen attention to detail and accuracy is crucial for the role.
  • Decision-Making: Good judgment in decision-making and problem-solving is necessary.
  • Work Environment: Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while balancing the interests and needs of the applicants, the insurance company, and the regulators.
