The United Nations World Food Programme facilitates humanitarian and development initiatives by executing procurement processes that are characterized by promptness, accountability, and operational effectiveness. WFP Ethiopia oversees procurement functions encompassing the acquisition of commodities and professional services, procurement from domestic and international markets, vendor collaboration, industry assessment, agreement negotiation, quantitative evaluation, and strategic procurement preparation.

The Procurement Unit is advancing vendor partnership optimization, supplier integration procedures, technology-enabled procurement systems, information accuracy assurance, and executive reporting capabilities. This internship opportunity is designed to deliver comprehensive hands-on training while contributing to procurement execution and enhancements in supplier oversight, documentation, and performance communication.

Position: Intern (Procurement)

Purpose of the Internship

The internship is designed to provide practical exposure to procurement operations in a humanitarian context while supporting the Procurement Unit in:

  • Vendor management and onboarding
  • Procurement processing and documentation
  • Procurement and supplier data management
  • Data analysis and reporting
  • Digital procurement systems and workflows
  • Dashboards and tracking tools
  • Process improvement
  • Stakeholder engagement

The intern will help support accurate, timely, and compliant procurement and vendor-management processes.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the applicable WFP internship eligibility requirements below:

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme at a recognized university, such as a bachelor’s degree, and have completed at least two years of study. Candidates should have attended classes within the past 12 months. Relevant fields include:
    • Procurement
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Business Administration
    • Economics
    • Finance
    • Information Systems
    • Computer Science
    • Data Analytics
    • Related fields

OR

  • Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme, such as a master’s degree, at a recognized university and have attended classes within the past 12 months. Relevant fields include Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field.

OR

  • Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme, having graduated within six months before applying for the internship, and have attended classes during the last 12 months of university enrolment.

Additional requirements include:

  • Must be an Ethiopian national.
  • Fluency in English and Amharic, both oral and written.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint or dashboards is an advantage.
  • Must be fit to travel to and work at the internship duty station.
  • Applicants must not be sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters of WFP employees.
  • Educational credentials must be from recognized institutions certified by competent international or national authorities, such as UNESCO or Ministries of Education.
