1. Social Development Specialist

Job Summary
The Social Development Specialist will support World Bank operations by ensuring that social inclusion, stakeholder engagement, and social risk management are effectively integrated into World Bank–financed projects. The role focuses on applying the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) throughout the project life cycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support on social risk identification and mitigation
- Support stakeholder engagement and grievance redress mechanisms
- Contribute to social impact assessments and supervision missions
- Promote inclusion of vulnerable and underserved groups
- Support monitoring and reporting on social safeguards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree in Social Sciences (Sociology, Anthropology, Development Studies, Social Work, or related fields)
- Relevant experience in social development or safeguards
- Strong knowledge of stakeholder engagement and social risk management
- Experience in Sub-Saharan Africa is an advantage
Language Requirements
- Excellent command of English
- Knowledge of Amharic is required
2. Environmental Engineer

Job Summary
The Environmental Engineer will provide technical expertise on environmental risk management and safeguards, ensuring compliance with the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines, and international best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental risk due diligence for World Bank–financed projects
- Review environmental impact assessments and management plans
- Support integration of environmental and safety measures into project design
- Monitor environmental compliance during project implementation
- Provide technical support and capacity building to client institutions
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or related fields
- Experience in environmental safeguards or risk management
- Familiarity with ESF, IFC Performance Standards, and EHS Guidelines
- Experience in infrastructure or energy projects is an advantage
Language Requirements
- Proficiency in English is required
