Position Summary

The Junior Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning (MERL) Intern supports the MERL Officer across all monitoring and reporting functions. The role involves reviewing plans and reports, summarizing field accomplishments, identifying challenges, and assisting in performance tracking against project targets.

The intern will help coordinate communication between field teams and the MERL unit, contribute to weekly and monthly reporting, ensure the use of MERL tools, and support data quality verification. This role requires frequent travel to project sites to monitor day-to-day implementation.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review daily and weekly plans and reports submitted by field teams for accuracy and completeness.
  • Extract key accomplishments, lessons learned, challenges, and recommendations from field submissions.
  • Support routine performance tracking by compiling data against project indicators and targets.
  • Provide basic feedback to project staff to strengthen planning and reporting quality.
  • Ensure all Means of Verification (MoV) and KPIs meet expected standards.
  • Verify that indicators follow the SMART criteria and are properly defined.
  • Assist in managing submission deadlines for plans, reports, and other deliverables.
  • Support the preparation of weekly and monthly MERL plans and reports.
  • Coordinate with field MERL focal persons to track daily implementation progress.
  • Report identified issues to the MERL Coordinator for further action.
  • Facilitate clear communication between project teams, field staff, and the MERL Coordinator.
  • Collect, organize, and store organizational learning materials, including photos, videos, and documents.
  • Ensure proper use of MERL tools such as KoboToolbox, SharePoint, and OnePAD.
  • Participate in regular MERL team meetings and support collective learning processes.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by the MERL Coordinator or management.

About You

Qualifications

  • BSc Degree or higher in:
    • Statistics
    • Economics
    • Development Economics
    • Agricultural Economics
    • Monitoring & Evaluation
    • Project Management
    • Or other relevant fields

Experience

  • No prior work experience required (fresh graduates may apply).
  • Familiarity with data collection and analysis tools is an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of tools such as KoBo, ODK, CommCare, SPSS, STATA, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of basic data management and M&E concepts.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Required Soft Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in diverse environments
