Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is a local, non-governmental, humanitarian, and development-focused organization established in 2007. ESD works to empower children, youth, and women by addressing the root causes of poverty and creating opportunities for long-term community development.

ESD is seeking an experienced Communication, Visibility and IT Specialist who will lead strategic communication initiatives, strengthen public engagement, and support digital innovation across the organization.


Position: Communication, Visibility and IT Specialist

  • Number of Positions: 1
  • Location: Addis Ababa (Head Office) with frequent travel to project sites
  • Reports to: Program Director
  • Employment Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 6 months (extendable up to 1 year)
  • Salary: Negotiable

Job Summary

The Communication, Visibility and IT Specialist will develop and implement communication strategies that enhance ESD’s public image and program visibility. The role includes producing high-quality communication materials, managing digital platforms, leading visibility campaigns, and providing IT support to improve organizational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Communication & Visibility

  • Develop, implement, and monitor communication and visibility plans.
  • Produce newsletters, brochures, press releases, fact sheets, and success stories.
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across channels.
  • Organize visibility events, campaigns, and outreach activities.

2. Digital Media & Content Management

  • Manage and update ESD’s website, social media, and digital platforms.
  • Produce engaging multimedia content (videos, photos, graphics).
  • Track digital analytics and optimize engagement.

3. Media Relations & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and key partners.
  • Prepare media kits, coordinate interviews, and support events.
  • Document program activities with quality visuals and reporting.

4. IT Support & Digital Solutions

  • Provide IT troubleshooting (hardware/software).
  • Manage digital tools, databases, and reporting systems.
  • Ensure secure data management, backups, and information flow.

5. Monitoring, Reporting & Knowledge Management

  • Track communication activities and produce regular reports.
  • Maintain organized archives of communication materials.
  • Support knowledge-sharing and dissemination initiatives.

6. Communication Management

  • Lead communication strategy development with program teams.
  • Implement visibility and influencing campaigns.
  • Ensure responsible use of images, content, and branding.
  • Support fundraising efforts through compelling communication.

7. Press & Media Coordination

  • Prepare press releases and media materials.
  • Serve as focal person for media inquiries.
  • Identify strategic opportunities to showcase ESD’s impact.

8. Digital Marketing

  • Update websites and digital platforms.
  • Implement social media content calendars and campaigns.
  • Ensure compliance with communication requirements of partners/donors.
  • Run digital marketing initiatives to enhance brand reach.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Software Engineering, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies, Marketing, or related fields.
  • Master’s degree is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience in communications, visibility, public relations, or digital media—preferably within NGOs or development organizations.
  • Strong background in strategy development, media relations, and high-quality content production.
  • Demonstrated experience managing websites, digital platforms, and social media campaigns.
  • Familiarity with WordPress, CMS platforms, and graphic design tools is an asset.
  • Experience organizing events, media briefings, and awareness campaigns.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills in Amharic and English.
  • High creativity, attention to detail, and strong writing skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex information for diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of donor communication requirements (EU, UN, etc.) is beneficial.
