United Nations Office to the African Union Vacancy

The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU), established by the UN General Assembly Resolution 64/288 on 1 July 2010, is mandated to enhance the partnership between the United Nations and the African Union in the area of peace and security.

POSITION: INTERN

Qualifications/special skills:

 

Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,

(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) The field of study must be closely related to the functions of the internship, particularly in reporting, research, analytical support, and AU UN partnership engagement.

Suitable academic backgrounds include International Relations, Political Science, Peace and Security Studies, African Studies, Public Policy, Gender Studies, or other relevant disciplines linked to multilateral cooperation and institutional partnerships. Studies in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or Public Relations may be considered where relevant to drafting, documentation, and reporting functions.

  • The candidate should be proficient in standard office applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with data compilation, information management, and reporting support is desirable.
  • Knowledge of advanced Excel functions and experience with data visualization tools would be an asset.
  • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, with sensitivity, respect, and openness to differing perspectives and views.
  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
  • Your training, education, advanced coursework, or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
