Position: Junior QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety & Environment) Officer

Purpose of the Role

  • The Junior QHSE Officer is responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the Company’s Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) Management System. The role ensures compliance with company policies, Ethiopian regulations, customer requirements, and industry best practices while promoting a strong safety culture. The position also supports transport vendors’ HSE compliance, insurance administration, incident reporting, and claims management.

  • Conduct workplace inspections and identify hazards and risks,
  • Support implementation of QHSE policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness programs,
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, and non-conformities, and follow up on corrective actions,
  • Monitor compliance with safety regulations and company requirements,
  • Ensure proper availability and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
  • Coordinate safety inductions, toolbox talks, awareness campaigns, and emergency drills,
  • Maintain QHSE records, reports, statistics, and documentation,
  • Support internal audits, customer inspections, and certification activities,
  • Assist in implementing environmental protection, waste management, and sustainability initiatives,
  • Monitor operational quality standards, customer complaints, and service improvement actions,
  • Liaise with insurance brokers on policy renewals, claims processing, and settlement of cargo, transport, warehouse, and vehicle-related incidents,
  • Maintain insurance and claims registers and ensure timely reporting of insurable events,
  • Develop, facilitate, and review QHSE risk assessments for routine and non-routine activities in consultation with the operation team,
  • Provide safety training to staff, including drivers, warehouse personnel, and other logistics team members.
  • Support compliance of transport vendors with company QHSE requirements,
  • Assist in external audits, customer inspections, and certification processes,
  • Maintain accurate QHSE records and statistics,
  • Prepare weekly and monthly QHSE reports,
  • Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor,

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: BSc Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply; internship experience is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

9.1. Technical Skills

  • Basic knowledge of ISO standards relevant to health, safety & environment,
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and incident investigation techniques.
  • Good training & facilitation skills,
  • Good ability in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
