Organization Background
YMCA Ethiopia is dedicated to promoting the wellbeing of youth and communities through body, mind, and spiritual development. We work in Addis Ababa and five regions: Amhara, Oromia, SNNPR, Tigray, and Sidama, in collaboration with government and non‑governmental partners.
Available Positions
1. Project Accountant (Junior Level – 1–3 years)
About the Role
The Project Accountant will manage donor‑funded project finances, ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance in a centralized financial system.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain project financial records in centralized accounting system
- Process fund transfers to branch offices
- Verify and reconcile branch financial reports
- Monitor expenditures against approved budgets
- Prepare and submit donor and management financial reports
- Ensure compliance with donor rules, NGO policies, and local regulations
- Act as focal point for project audits
- Build capacity of branch finance staff
- Manage accounts payable/receivable at national level
- Assist in budget preparation and revisions
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in project/grant accounting within NGOs (donor‑funded projects such as USAID, EU, BMZ, UN Agencies)
- Experience preparing financial reports and facilitating audits
- Knowledge of fund accounting and donor compliance
- Proficiency in accounting software (Peachtree, QuickBooks, Sage, MS Dynamics, IPSAS, IFRS) and advanced Excel
- Strong attention to detail, integrity, and systematic financial control
2. Project Coordinator (Mid Level – 3–5 years)
About the Role
The Project Coordinator will oversee donor‑funded projects, ensuring smooth collaboration between the National Office and branch offices, adherence to timelines, and effective reporting.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Act as communication link between National Office and branches
- Monitor and update project work plans and timelines
- Track progress of activities and deliverables
- Collect and consolidate narrative/progress reports from branches
- Submit consolidated reports to donors, management, and government bodies
- Organize and document project meetings
- Facilitate procurement of goods/services at national level
- Maintain centralized digital repository of project documentation
- Identify and resolve implementation bottlenecks
- Capture and share success stories, challenges, and best practices
- Support monitoring visits, trainings, and project events
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Project Management, Social Sciences, or related field
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in project coordination/management within NGOs (preferably with field offices)
- Experience in women’s economic empowerment and Self Help Group (SHG) structures
- Proficiency in MS Office and digital project management tools
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in Amharic and English (written and spoken)
- Skills in developing/monitoring work plans, budgets, and reports
- Understanding of Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) principles
