The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was established in 1970 through the efforts of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations, with support from the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia.
The Institute is named after the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who was the first to identify the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae).
AHRI was reorganized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 376/2016, focusing on biomedical research, clinical trials, and research capacity building under the Federal Ministry of Health. Over its 50 years of operation, AHRI has gained recognition for its role as a hub for skill and technology transfer, fostering partnerships that align with research agendas aimed at making a direct impact on the development and transformation of populations in Ethiopia and beyond.
Position: Assistant Researcher II
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, reproductive health and related disciplines
- Experience with health project management, coordination and leadership
- Familiarity with Ethiopian Health System and structure
- Experience in developing different health related ToRs, SOPs for the scientific team and other technical working groups.
- Experience project grant writing and submission and project grant administration
- Excellent scientific writing, documentation, and communication skills in English
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Minimum of four years and above of relevant work experience.
Salary: As per AHRI’s contract employ salary scale
Terms of Employment: Contract for eight months possible for extension based on performance and availability of funding
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, AHRI
