Position: Environmental Health and Safety Officer

Job Summary
The Safety Officer will lead, implement, and monitor environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with Ethiopian labor laws, environmental regulations, and company standards within the manufacturing facility. This role is critical in fostering a proactive safety culture, identifying workplace hazards, and reducing risks to employees and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and lead the Occupational Safety and Health Committee
- Ensure all processes and machinery do not pose risks to the health/safety of workers.
- Provide, track, and enforce the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all employees.
- Establish and update Emergency Preparedness plans, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and fire safety systems.
- Serve as the first responder for workplace incidents, first aid provision, and accident investigation.
- Register employment accidents and occupational diseases and report to the local labor inspection service.
- Oversee waste management processes, including segregation, recycling, and disposal of hazardous/non-hazardous waste.
- Monitor environmental pollutants air emissions, wastewater, and noise levels to meet local regulations.
- Maintain accurate records for environmental audits and ensure timely closure of findings.
- Ensure the facility operates in compliance with environmental regulations regarding natural resource usage.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly walkthrough inspections of production lines, storage areas, and machinery.
- Identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
- Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all hazardous chemicals used on-site.
- Conduct EHS induction for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Organize regular toolbox talks and training sessions on topics such as ergonomics, chemical handling, and fire prevention.
- Foster a safety-first culture through awareness campaigns and visible leadership.
Job Requirements
- Education: Diploma and above in Environmental Health & Safety Science, Occupational Health and Safety/ Environmental Engineering and related fields
- Minimum of 0 years of Experience and above.
- Knowledge: knowledge of Ethiopian Occupational Safety & Health legislation
- Languages: Amharic and English.
- Applicants who live around Alemgena are preferred.

- Courage to question personnel of higher rank regarding safety violations.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Gross Salary: 16,924 ETB
